UPSC Civil Services 2026 Syllabus has been notified by the Union Public Service Commission. The examination is conducted in three stages: Prelims, Mains and Personality Test. Detailed syllabus of all the papers is available on the official website upsc.gov.in.

Prelims Syllabus: GS Paper-1 covers current events, history of India, geography, polity, economy, environment, science and technology. CSAT Paper-2 covers comprehension, logical reasoning, data interpretation and basic numeracy.
Mains Syllabus: The Mains exam has 9 papers including Essay, General Studies 1 to 4 and Optional Subject. GS-1 covers history, geography and society; GS-2 covers polity, governance and international relations; GS-3 covers economy, environment, science and security; GS-4 covers ethics, integrity and aptitude.
Optional Subject: Candidates can choose one optional subject from the list of 26 subjects such as Geography, Sociology, Public Administration, History, Political Science or Mathematics.
Follow the NCERT books first and then move on to the standard reference books for the complete UPSC preparation.
